Cape Verde World Cup hero Vozinha joins Arturo Vidal at Colo-Colo

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has joined Chilean club Colo-Colo after starring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he helped his country reach the knockout stage for the first time.

The 40-year-old has signed a six-month contract with Colo-Colo, according to reports in Chile, keeping him at the club until the end of 2026. The agreement includes an option to extend his stay for another year.

Colo-Colo confirmed the move on social media, announcing: “Vozinha is now a Cacique player.”

The club added: “Alongside our president, Anibal Mosa, Vozinha signed his contract and officially became a new Colo-Colo player.”

Vozinha will join former Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal at the Macul-based club. Vidal returned to Colo-Colo in 2024, having started his professional career there before moving to Europe.

The Chile international went on to play for Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Inter Milan during a distinguished European career. Vidal is 39.

Vozinha arrives in Chile after an outstanding World Cup campaign with Cape Verde. The tournament was the country’s first appearance in the knockout stages, and the goalkeeper played a central role in their progress.

He helped Cape Verde hold world champions Spain to a goalless draw in the group stage, producing seven saves and being named Player of the Match.

Cape Verde then took eventual finalists Argentina to extra time in the Round of 32. Across four matches at the tournament, Vozinha recorded two clean sheets and made 21 saves.

His performances in the United States, Canada and Mexico have now earned him a move away from Portuguese football, where he spent the past two seasons with GD Chaves.

He previously played for Gil Vicente during the 2016/17 campaign. Colo-Colo’s signing gives the experienced goalkeeper a new challenge in Chile and places him alongside one of the club’s most notable former academy graduates.
