Azam FC granted CAF Confederation Cup bye, enter competition in second preliminary round

Tanzanian giants Azam FC have been handed a major boost ahead of their 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup campaign after receiving a bye from the first preliminary round of the competition.

The Dar es Salaam-based club will not be required to play in the opening stage of the continental tournament and will instead begin their journey in the second preliminary round.

The decision gives Azam FC additional time to prepare for their continental challenge as they seek to make a strong impression in the Confederation Cup.

CAF’s preliminary round structure means several clubs are exempted from the opening phase based on factors including competition rankings and previous continental performances. Azam’s entry at the second preliminary round stage places them closer to the group phase of the tournament.

The Tanzanian outfit has been active in strengthening its squad and preparations as it targets success both domestically and on the African stage.

Azam FC will now await the official draw to discover their second preliminary round opponents as they begin their quest for a place in the group stages of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.
