Yunis Abdelhamid ends playing career at 38 after AS FAR Rabat spell

Morocco defender Yunis Abdelhamid has ended his playing career at the age of 38 after leaving AS FAR Rabat.

The centre-back’s retirement was recorded on 3 August 2026, bringing an end to a career that included spells in Morocco and France. Abdelhamid joined AS FAR Rabat from Saint-Etienne on a free transfer in July 2025 and spent one season with the Botola Pro Inwi club before retiring.

Born in Montpellier, Abdelhamid began his senior career with AS Lattes before moving to AC Arles B in 2011. He subsequently played for AC Arles-Avignon, Valenciennes FC, Dijon and Stade Reims, establishing himself as a regular defender in the French professional game.

His move to Stade Reims in 2017 marked a significant stage of his career. Abdelhamid helped the club win the French second tier title in the 2017-18 season, before later moving to Saint-Etienne as a free agent in July 2024.

Across his career, the left-footed central defender made 235 Ligue 1 appearances and scored 13 goals. He also played 195 matches in Ligue 2, registering 12 goals, while making appearances in the Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, Botola Pro Inwi and CAF Champions League.

Abdelhamid stood 1.90m tall and was listed as a defender whose preferred position was centre-back. His final recorded club was AS FAR Rabat, where he completed his last playing chapter before moving into retirement.

The former Stade Reims player leaves the game with more than 400 appearances across France’s top two divisions, along with a league title from his time in Reims. His final club move, from Saint-Etienne to AS FAR Rabat, was completed without a transfer fee, while his playing career concluded after his departure from the Moroccan side.

Abdelhamid’s move from AS FAR Rabat into retirement was completed on 3 August 2026.
