Lommel SK sign Belgium-Nigeria defender Shawn Adewoye on free transfer
Belgium-Nigeria centre-back Shawn Adewoye has joined Lommel SK from Fortuna Sittard on a free transfer, adding a 26-year-old defender to the Belgian club’s squad.
Adewoye completed the move on 3 August 2026 after leaving Fortuna Sittard, where he had spent the previous two seasons. The right-footed defender now returns to Belgium to continue his career in the Jupiler Pro League.
Born in Bree, Adewoye has represented both Belgium and Nigeria as his nationalities. He stands 1.85m tall and plays primarily at centre-back.
The defender arrives at Lommel with substantial experience in the Netherlands. He has made 139 Eredivisie appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist, while also featuring seven times in the KNVB Beker and making five appearances in the UEFA Youth League.
Adewoye joined Fortuna Sittard from RKC Waalwijk in July 2024, also on a free transfer. His time at RKC followed a move from Genk in January 2021, having progressed through Genk’s youth system before entering senior football.
His route to Lommel means he has now moved between clubs in the Netherlands and Belgium during successive stages of his career. He began at KRC Genk Youth before advancing to the club’s under-17 and under-21 sides, then moving into the senior squad in 2019.
Lommel compete in Belgium’s top flight, while Fortuna Sittard play in the Eredivisie. Adewoye’s arrival gives the Belgian side a defender with extensive league experience from across his time in Dutch football.
The transfer was completed on 3 August 2026, with Adewoye joining Lommel SK from Fortuna Sittard without a fee.
