CAF confirms November 8 date for 2026 Super Cup as Sundowns host USM Alger in Pretoria

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed that the 2026 CAF Super Cup will be played on 8 November 2026, with South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns set to host Algerian giants USM Alger in Pretoria.

The annual curtain-raiser between the winners of Africa’s two premier club competitions will pit CAF Champions League holders Mamelodi Sundowns against CAF Confederation Cup champions USM Alger in what promises to be one of the continent’s biggest club fixtures of the year.

CAF’s confirmation brings an end to speculation surrounding the scheduling of the match after earlier reports suggested the fixture could be moved due to stadium availability concerns in South Africa.

The governing body has now settled on 8 November, with Pretoria selected as the host city.

Sundowns earned their place in the Super Cup after lifting the 2025/26 CAF Champions League title, adding another continental crown to their illustrious history.

The Brazilians will enjoy home advantage as they seek to claim the prestigious one-off trophy in front of their supporters.

USM Alger, meanwhile, booked their place after winning the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup. The Algerian outfit will be aiming to secure another continental honour by overcoming one of Africa’s most formidable club sides on their own turf.

The CAF Super Cup, first introduced in 1993, is contested annually between the winners of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.

The fixture has become one of the most anticipated events on the African football calendar, offering both clubs the opportunity to begin the new continental season with silverware.

With two of Africa’s most successful clubs set to meet in Pretoria, the showdown is expected to attract significant attention across the continent as Mamelodi Sundowns and USM Alger battle for the first major CAF trophy of the 2026/27 campaign.
