Sael Kumbedi linked with Marseille transfer after move to Wolfsburg

Sael Kumbedi, the French and DR Congo-nationality right-back at Wolfsburg, has been linked with a move to Marseille in Ligue 1.

The 21-year-old joined Wolfsburg permanently from Lyon in January 2026 after an initial loan spell, with the German club paying a reported €6m for his transfer. He remains under contract until 30 June 2029.

Kumbedi’s possible return to France would come only months after his departure from Lyon, where he had played 52 Ligue 1 matches and recorded four assists. He has also made 24 Bundesliga appearances, contributing five assists.

The defender began his senior career with Le Havre before moving to Lyon in August 2022. He spent the first part of the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Wolfsburg, before completing a permanent transfer at the turn of the year.

Marseille are understood to be considering Kumbedi as a potential addition to their defence, although there has been no confirmation that an agreement has been reached. Wolfsburg’s decision to secure him on a long-term contract means any move would require negotiations with the German club rather than a free transfer.
