Montpellier sign French-Congolese winger Nordan Mukiele on loan from Rennes

Montpellier have signed French and DR Congo winger Nordan Mukiele from Stade Rennais on a season-long loan, giving the 20-year-old a move to Ligue 2 for the 2026-27 campaign.

Mukiele, who plays on the right wing and is left-footed? No, preferred foot right. He joins Montpellier after coming through Rennes’ development system and making eight Ligue 1 appearances for the club, scoring once. His loan runs until 30 June 2027.

Born in Montreuil on 12 February 2006, Mukiele stands 1.84m tall and has represented both France and DR Congo at nationality level. He began his youth career with Paris FC before moving to Joinville in 2019, then joining Rennes’ youth set-up in 2021.

The winger progressed from Rennes Under-17s to the Under-19 side and then Rennes B before moving into the senior squad. His most productive recorded campaign came with Rennes B, where he made 26 appearances in National 2, scoring six goals and providing three assists.

Mukiele also featured 26 times for Rennes’ Under-19 side, finding the net six times, and scored once in 10 Coupe Gambardella appearances. His senior experience includes action in Ligue 1 and National 1, alongside his performances for Rennes’ reserve team.

Montpellier play in Ligue 2, while Rennes remain in France’s top flight. The move therefore takes Mukiele to a different level of domestic competition as he continues his career away from Stade Rennais.

The transfer history shows Mukiele joined Rennes B from the club’s Under-19 team in July 2023, before moving into the Stade Rennais senior structure two years later. He had previously moved from Joinville to Rennes Under-17s on a free transfer in July 2021.

Montpellier’s agreement secures the winger’s services for the full 2026-27 season, with the loan scheduled to end on 30 June 2027. Mukiele completed his move from Stade Rennais to Montpellier on 1 August 2026.
