Redouane Halhal: Venezia sign Morocco-France defender from KV Mechelen

Redouane Halhal has joined Venezia from Belgian club KV Mechelen, with the 23-year-old Morocco and France centre-back signing a contract with the Serie A side until 30 June 2030.

Halhal moves to Italy after a season in which he made 24 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League for Mechelen, scoring once and providing two assists. He also featured nine times in the league’s Champions’ Play-Offs, giving him further experience in Belgian top-flight football before switching to Venezia.

The right-footed defender, who was born in Montpellier and stands 1.89m tall, began his senior career with Montpellier B after progressing through the French club’s youth system. He left Montpellier B in July 2023 and later joined Spanish side Atletico Madrileno at the start of 2024.

Halhal moved to KV Mechelen on a free transfer in August 2024, before spending part of the 2024-25 season on loan at Helmond Sport in the Netherlands. He made 32 appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie for Helmond, scoring one goal, and subsequently returned to Mechelen.

His move to Venezia adds a defender with experience in both Dutch and Belgian football to a squad competing in Italy’s top division. Halhal’s career record also includes appearances in France’s National 2 and National 3, as well as two matches in Spain’s Primera Federacion.

At international level, Halhal was part of the Morocco Under-23 team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023. He also appeared twice at the 2026 World Cup, playing 32% of the available minutes and receiving one yellow card.

Venezia’s new signing had a listed market value of €5m before the move. He will now continue his career in Serie A after completing his switch from KV Mechelen to the Italian club on 1 August 2026.
