In a redemption match during the 23rd day of the Cameroonian D1 championship, Canon de Yaoundé avenged their previous 4-1 defeat against Douala Athletic Club (DAC). The Canonniers secured a 2-1 victory in the return match held at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé.
Assistant coach Kisito Eloundou highlighted the team’s determination for revenge following the earlier heavy loss. Canon de Yaoundé, fueled by this motivation, claimed all three points in the match, though falling short of overturning the 4-1 deficit from the first leg.
The Canonniers had an opportunity to narrow the margin further to 3-1 when Pierre Wome Nlend was awarded a penalty with ten minutes remaining. However, reminiscent of a crucial moment in 2005, Wome Nlend missed the penalty, sending the shot over the crossbar.
Despite the missed opportunity, the victory has secured Canon de Yaoundé’s position in the league and reignited their pursuit of an African competition spot. The win represents a positive turn for the team.
Pierre Wome Nlend, a seasoned player who had a significant career in Europe, made headlines for refusing a call-up to the national team (Lions) in August 2012 when selected for a friendly tournament in India.
