Barcelona schedule Morocco friendly in Tangier as part of 2026-27 pre-season plans

Barcelona have set out firm plans for a pre-season friendly in Morocco, with the Spanish club due to play in Tangier on 15 August as part of their preparations for the 2026-27 campaign.

The match will be staged against a Moroccan club side, with the identity of the opponents still to be confirmed, according to Catalan newspaper Sport.

Barcelona are currently finalising organisational details for the fixture, which will take place in the northern port city just under two weeks before the start of their new season.

The La Liga side have opted to face domestic opposition from Morocco because the local league is not scheduled to start until October, making it easier to secure a suitable rival at that time in the calendar.

Penultimate test before Joan Gamper date with Al Ahly

The Tangier encounter will serve as Barcelona’s penultimate warm-up game before the new season.

Their final pre-season outing is set for 19 August, when they will take on Al Ahly of Egypt at Spotify Camp Nou in the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy friendly.

The Moroccan fixture and the Joan Gamper match form the conclusion of a busy summer programme arranged to prepare the team for 2026-27.

England camp and Italian tournament ahead of Morocco trip

Barcelona are in England at present for a pre-season training camp, which will be rounded off with two friendlies against Championship opposition.

They are scheduled to face Birmingham City on 31 July, before meeting Preston North End on 3 August.

Following the UK leg of their build-up, Barcelona will travel to Italy on 8 August to take part in a three-team tournament in Udine.

During that event, they are due to play Nottingham Forest and Udinese as part of a compact schedule designed to sharpen the squad’s fitness and tactical cohesion.

Only after completing the Udine tournament will Barcelona head to Morocco for the Tangier game, which leads directly into their high-profile Joan Gamper date with Al Ahly in Barcelona.

The sequence of fixtures – England friendlies, the Italian mini-tournament, the Moroccan clash and then the Gamper Trophy – forms the backbone of Barcelona’s pre-season plan as they work towards the start of the 2026-27 season.
