Juventus weighing summer move for Al-Hilal and Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou

Juventus are exploring a summer transfer for Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou as they look to overhaul their options in goal after a disappointing Serie A campaign.

The 35-year-old, who left Europe for Saudi Arabia but has maintained a high level of performance with Al-Hilal, has emerged as a leading candidate for the Italian club, who are seeking to re-establish themselves among the continent’s elite.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Juventus are prioritising the recruitment of a top-class goalkeeper following a season that ended with a sixth-place finish in Serie A, well below the club’s expectations.

The Turin side are not fully convinced by current options Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin and are understood to be assessing experienced alternatives capable of becoming their long-term first choice.

From Emiliano Martinez to a cheaper alternative

Romano reports that Juventus initially targeted Aston Villa’s Argentina international Emiliano Martinez as their preferred solution. However, the fee demanded by the Birmingham club for the World Cup runner-up is thought to have discouraged the Italian side, prompting them to consider less expensive possibilities.

In that context, Yassine Bounou’s name has surfaced as a serious option, according to Al Jazeera Sport. Juventus are believed to have made initial enquiries about the situation of the Morocco international and are evaluating the potential cost of the deal.

The move is currently estimated at around €9m, a figure viewed as relatively attainable for an established, high-level goalkeeper.

Bounou’s stature has been reinforced by his performances at the 2026 World Cup, where he again showed he is still capable of competing at the very highest level despite his age and his move away from European club football.

Al-Hilal unwilling to lose first-choice goalkeeper

The major obstacle to any agreement lies with Al-Hilal. The Saudi club continue to consider Bounou, who extended his contract until 2028 last year, as their undisputed first-choice goalkeeper and a central figure in their sporting project.

Club management are not planning to sanction his departure during this transfer window and see him as a key asset both on and off the pitch. That stance means any negotiations with Juventus are likely to be complex and potentially protracted.

For Bounou, a switch to Turin would offer a high-profile return to European football and the chance to represent one of the game’s most storied clubs. However, with Al-Hilal reluctant to sell and Juventus still weighing their options, the outcome of the pursuit remains uncertain.

Despite the difficulties, Juventus are not thought to have abandoned the idea, and the situation could continue to evolve as the 2026 summer transfer window progresses.
