Ibrahim Maza back in full Bayer Leverkusen training ahead of Leipzig clash

Ibrahim Maza has returned to full Bayer Leverkusen training after illness and could feature against RB Leipzig on Sunday.

The 20-year-old attacker missed Wednesday’s 2-0 Europa League victory over NK Celje after being forced to reduce his workload earlier in the week.

Leverkusen head coach Carles Martinez delivered an encouraging fitness update before the Bundesliga fixture. “He is training with us in the group today. For now, everything is good. It has improved a lot,” Martinez said.

Maza is not yet considered fully back to peak condition following his illness. Martinez acknowledged that the Algerian international still needs time to regain full physical sharpness, but the player’s return to group sessions has greatly improved his chances of being involved.

“He was ill and is not yet 100 percent in his best condition,” Martinez explained. Even so, the coach expects Maza to be available if there are no fresh concerns. “If everything is good, he will be in the squad. And if everything is good, I naturally hope that he can play too.”

The midfielder has therefore completed the key step required for a possible comeback. Whether he starts against Leipzig remains uncertain, but his selection would provide Leverkusen with another creative option.
