Galatasaray publicly quash Jamal Musiala loan links in rare transfer-market statement

Galatasaray have taken the unusual step of issuing a formal statement to deny reports that Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala is close to joining the Turkish club on loan this summer.

The Istanbul side moved quickly to rebut claims in Turkey that they had been offered the Germany international and had entered advanced negotiations over a temporary deal.

Reports in Turkish media, led by daily newspaper Hurriyet and relayed by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, had suggested Musiala was being lined up for a season-long loan at Galatasaray and that talks between all parties were progressing.

Galatasaray almost never comment on transfer speculation, but on this occasion the club circulated a written statement to journalists explicitly rejecting the story, a move that has been described as highly unusual in Turkey.

“The news claiming that our club has reached an agreement with Jamal Musiala and Bayern Munich is not true, and this is to clarify the situation to the public,” the statement read.

Reaction in Germany

According to the same report in Mundo Deportivo, the statement caused surprise in Germany as well, where the initial rumours about Musiala leaving Bayern Munich for Galatasaray had drawn little attention and were not treated as credible by German media.

Musiala is preparing for the new campaign with Bayern Munich and, the report stresses, there is no indication from either the player or the club that they are considering ending their association during the current transfer window.

The 21-year-old remains viewed as one of the central figures in Bayern’s sporting project, and the official denial from Galatasaray underlined that there is no agreement in place of any kind for him to move to Istanbul.

By going on record, Galatasaray effectively brought an end to the specific set of rumours surrounding Musiala, insisting that what had been published about an alleged deal bore no relation to reality.

Musiala recovering from surgery

Mundo Deportivo also highlighted Musiala’s physical situation following international duty. After Germany’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup in the last 32 against Paraguay on penalties, the midfielder underwent surgery.

Doctors removed a metal plate from his left foot, and he is currently in a rehabilitation phase as he works towards full fitness ahead of his return to competitive action with Bayern Munich.

The operation is described as part of a planned medical process rather than a factor linked to any potential transfer, and Musiala is expected to resume his role once fully recovered.

Competition in Bayern midfield

The report further notes that the arrival of Morocco international Ismail Saibari at Bayern Munich is likely to intensify competition for places in the Bayern midfield.

However, the signing of Saibari is not seen as signalling an imminent departure for Musiala. Instead, Musiala continues to be regarded as one of the key pillars of Bayern’s long-term sporting strategy.

In that context, Galatasaray’s strongly worded clarification stands out as one of the more striking club statements of the current summer window, precisely because the Turkish champions so rarely respond directly to transfer-market rumours.

By formally distancing themselves from any suggestion of a deal for Musiala, Galatasaray have made clear that, despite the flurry of speculation, there is no prospect at present of the Bayern star heading to Istanbul on loan.
