A press release from the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has denounced a scam surrounding the Ivory Coast-Senegal match in the first leg of the 2014 World Cup play-offs. The FIF expressed surprise at the broadcast of an SMS message attributed to the FIF, urging recipients to show “patriotism” by making a transfer of 1,000 CFA francs to supposed telephone numbers of players YAO KOUASSI GERVAIS, DROGBA DIDER, and BARRY BOUBACAR. The FIF clarified that it is not involved in such an initiative, disclaimed responsibility, and reserved the right to initiate possible legal proceedings against the perpetrators. The federation emphasized the importance of true mobilization around the Elephants.
