Mahlambi sets 15-goal target as TS Galaxy winger eyes major step in 2026-27 season

TS Galaxy winger Seluleko Mahlambi says he is aiming for up to 15 goals in the 2026-27 campaign after a breakthrough season that brought him major individual recognition and transfer interest.

The 21-year-old wide player was one of Galaxy’s standout performers last term, finishing with six goals and four assists in 29 appearances in all competitions.

His form earned him nominations for PSL Young Player of the Season and Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament, underlining his rapid rise in the South African game.

Pushing beyond last season’s target

Speaking after helping Galaxy win the Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup final, Mahlambi explained that scoring more goals is at the heart of his personal ambitions for the new season.

“To win the match [Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup final] means a lot to me because from last season, my plan was to push myself and make sure I continue where I left off until things happen the way I wish them to, and helping the team go forward,” Mahlambi told Mpumalanga TV.

Last season, the pacey winger had set himself a target of 10 goals in all competitions, but fell short of that mark.

“Last season, I was gunning for 10 goals but ended up with only seven, so my aim this season is 14 or 15 goals, which will enable me to at least to get to the elusive 10 goals I was looking for last season,” he said.

Although official statistics from Galaxy’s campaign record six goals and four assists in 29 outings, Mahlambi is using his own tally as the benchmark for his new target.

Confidence growing after cup success

Mahlambi believes his development is on track and credits the Galaxy coaching staff and his team-mates for his progress.

“I’m very happy with my performance. I thank the support from the coaches and the guys, this couldn’t have happened without them. I think everything is on track,” he added.

Operating primarily from the wing, he is clear about the responsibility that comes with his position in the team’s attacking set-up.

“As a winger, I’m expected to score and assist,” he said, underlining his determination to improve his end product in the final third.

National team talk on hold

Mahlambi’s displays have fuelled growing discussion about a potential call-up to the South African national team, but he insists he is not allowing that prospect to distract him from his club responsibilities.

“As for the national team, that’s not something I’m rushing, to be honest. If the time is right, they will select me,” he told Mpumalanga TV.

Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has already moved to clarify the club’s stance on Mahlambi’s future amid interest sparked by his performances, while elsewhere in the squad midfielder Sphiwe Maduna is facing an exit and has lost his jersey number.

For now, though, Mahlambi’s focus remains firmly on building on a standout 2025-26 season by breaking into double figures and beyond, as TS Galaxy prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
