Vozinha: Cape Verde World Cup star on brink of Colo Colo move at 40

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is poised to join Chilean giants Colo Colo on a free transfer after impressing at this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The 40-year-old, a standout performer for his country at the tournament, is expected to travel to Chile in the coming days to complete a medical before signing his contract, according to Colo Colo president Anibas Mosa.

Vozinha is currently unattached following the end of his deal with Portuguese side Chaves and has attracted interest from several clubs in recent weeks.

Mosa told local media: “Vozinha se rendra au Chili dans les prochains jours pour passer sa visite medicale et sera presente. Il est en pleine forme, nous attendons donc son arrivee avec impatience.”

World Cup displays spark interest

Vozinha was widely regarded as one of Cape Verde’s key figures at the World Cup, where he delivered a series of high-profile performances.

Against Spain and Argentina, the veteran goalkeeper repeatedly underlined his enduring quality, producing numerous crucial saves and contributing significantly to his side’s competitiveness in both matches.

His displays on the global stage drew attention from clubs in Brazil and also from Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, where Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are under contract.

However, those options now appear unlikely to materialise, with Colo Colo emerging as his next destination.

Free agent after Chaves exit

Vozinha became a free agent when his contract with Chaves expired, leaving him free to negotiate with interested clubs without a transfer fee.

That status, combined with his World Cup form and experience, increased his appeal on the market and allowed Colo Colo to move decisively to secure his services.

Medical next step before signing

Colo Colo have scheduled medical examinations for after the weekend, which will determine the final step before the move is completed.

If he passes those tests as expected, the club plan to formalise the agreement and present Vozinha as their new signing shortly afterwards.

Mosa stressed that the goalkeeper arrives in excellent condition and indicated the club’s hierarchy are confident the deal will be finalised once the medical procedures are completed.
