Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta enjoyed a dream start to his tenure at Al Ahly after the Egyptian giants eased to a 5-1 victory over Al Nasr Cairo in a pre-season friendly on Thursday.

The convincing win marked Ammouta’s first match in charge, with Al Ahly producing an impressive attacking display as they stepped up preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Gradishar led the scoring with two goals, while Hussein El Shahat, Ali Mahmoud and Moroccan forward Ashraf Bencharki also found the back of the net to complete the rout.

Preparations continue

Al Ahly will continue their build-up to the new season with another friendly against Egyptian second-division side La Viena on 30 July as Ammouta continues to assess his squad and fine-tune his tactics.

The former Morocco coach is expected to use the fixture to give more players valuable minutes before competitive football resumes.

Another Moroccan addition

The Egyptian champions have also strengthened their squad with the signing of another Moroccan player.

Striker Soufiane Benjedida recently joined Al Ahly after finishing last season as both Maghreb Fez’s leading scorer and the Botola Pro’s top scorer, adding further Moroccan influence to the club’s ranks ahead of the new campaign.

Ammouta will hope the early signs shown in his first outing are the beginning of a successful era as Al Ahly target domestic and continental honours this season.
