Morgan Rogers: Chelsea sign England forward in record £117m British deal

Chelsea have shattered the transfer record for a British footballer by signing England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a deal reported to be worth £117m.

The 23-year-old forward has agreed a contract at Stamford Bridge running until 2033, the clubs confirmed on Tuesday. While neither side disclosed the fee, Sky Sports reported that the package eclipses the sum Manchester City recently paid for Elliot Anderson.

The move makes Rogers the most expensive British player in history, surpassing the reported figure of up to £116m City spent to sign Anderson from Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

Long-term commitment to Chelsea project

Rogers becomes Chelsea’s latest marquee signing as the club continues its strategy of securing young talent on lengthy deals. The former Aston Villa attacker, who can operate both as a winger and an attacking midfielder, underlined his enthusiasm for the move.

Rogers leaves Aston Villa after a highly successful spell in which he helped the Midlands club secure a historic European trophy.
