Somerville ‘one step away’ from €80m Al Hilal move that would make him second costliest Saudi Pro League signing

Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville is on the verge of completing a high-profile transfer from West Ham United to Saudi giants Al Hilal in a deal worth around €80m, according to multiple reports in Saudi Arabia.

The 24-year-old has already undergone the required medical examinations for the Riyadh club and has agreed to join, with only the final signature remaining before the move is made official, Saudi journalist Hamad Al-Swailhi has claimed.

If confirmed, the fee would make Summerville the second most expensive signing in the history of the Saudi Pro League.

Medical completed, paperwork pending

Al-Swailhi reported on X (formerly Twitter) that Summerville has passed his medical tests requested by Al Hilal in the last few hours.

He added that the club is now only waiting for the final signing of contracts to formally announce the transfer, describing the deal as all but done.

Saudi media had earlier stated that Al Hilal had reached a near-complete agreement with West Ham over a transfer fee of about €80m in the current summer window, as the Public Investment Fund-backed side continues its aggressive recruitment drive.

Summerville, who primarily operates as a left winger but can also feature on the right flank, as a central striker or an attacking midfielder, would further strengthen an already star-studded Al Hilal squad.

Salary package revealed

A separate report by Saudi journalist Saif Al-Saif detailed the financial terms being offered to the Dutch international.

Al-Saif said Al Hilal have put a package on the table worth €12m per year, including add-ons, for the duration of Summerville’s contract.

He noted that this salary is “less than most players at clubs owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund”, underlining both the scale of PIF spending across the league and Al Hilal’s belief that the winger represents long-term value.

World Cup breakout boosts profile

Summerville’s profile soared during the 2026 World Cup, where he emerged as one of the standout attacking options for the Netherlands despite not starting every match.

He scored two goals and provided two assists at the tournament, helping to fuel interest from clubs outside Europe’s traditional top leagues and drawing attention to his versatility and end product.

His performances for the national team have been seen as a key factor behind Al Hilal’s willingness to invest heavily in securing his services.

Impressive season at West Ham

Away from international duty, Summerville delivered a strong campaign for West Ham United last season.

The winger made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and supplying five assists. His direct running, ability to cut in from the flank and positional flexibility made him one of West Ham’s most influential attacking outlets.

At 24, he is seen as entering his prime years, with Al Hilal viewing him as both an immediate upgrade on the pitch and a marketable talent who fits the league’s broader strategy of attracting younger European-based players, not just ageing stars.

Summerville’s main position is on the left wing, where he can attack full-backs one-on-one and drive inside onto his stronger foot. However, he has also been deployed effectively on the right wing and, to a lesser extent, through the middle as a striker or in a No 10 role.
