Goodman Mosele set for permanent Chippa United switch as Orlando Pirates exit looms

Orlando Pirates midfielder Goodman Mosele is on the brink of a permanent move to Chippa United, in a deal that is expected to end his five-year spell with the Soweto giants.

The 26-year-old did not travel with Pirates for their pre-season tour of Spain, a clear indication that he is no longer central to head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s immediate plans.

Sources close to the negotiations have told Soccer Laduma’s Siya crew that talks between Pirates and Chippa United are at an advanced stage, with only final details understood to be outstanding before the transfer is completed.

If confirmed, the move would see Mosele join the Eastern Cape club on a full-time basis after impressing during multiple loan spells in Gqeberha.

Chippa edge ahead in race for signature

Chippa United, nicknamed the Chilli Boys, have long been eager to retain Mosele following his most recent loan stint, during which he featured regularly and re-established himself as a key figure in their midfield.

As previously reported, discussions have been ongoing over a deal to keep him at the club beyond last season, and the latest indications are that the parties are now close to reaching an agreement.

Durban City had also shown interest in the player, but Siya sources suggest Chippa have moved firmly to the front of the queue and are “on the verge” of wrapping up the move.

The proposed transfer would give Chippa continuity in the heart of their side, while offering Mosele the stability of a permanent home after several temporary switches.

Five-year Pirates chapter set to close

Mosele joined Orlando Pirates from Baroka FC in 2021, arriving as one of the most highly regarded young midfielders in South African football.

However, competition for places at the Buccaneers has meant that he has spent much of his time there out on loan, with Chippa United becoming a familiar destination where he has consistently enjoyed more minutes on the pitch.

Despite flashes of promise in a Pirates shirt, he has not been able to secure a regular starting role at the club, and his omission from the squad travelling to Spain for pre-season has reinforced the view that the club is prepared to move him on.

Should the deal be finalised, it would formally close Mosele’s chapter at Pirates and allow him to continue his career at a club where he has already settled and proven his value.

Fresh start in familiar surroundings

For Chippa United, the permanent signing of Mosele would represent a significant boost ahead of the new Betway Premiership campaign, bringing in a player who already understands the club’s environment and expectations.

For Mosele, it offers the chance to rebuild momentum at a team where he has regularly featured and to play a central role rather than fighting for opportunities from the fringes.

Both clubs are yet to make an official announcement, but all indications suggest that only formalities remain before the move is rubber-stamped and Goodman Mosele is unveiled once more in Chippa United colours – this time, on a permanent basis.
