Javier Aguirre hails Umar Sadiq after Nigerian striker delivers winning blow on Valencia return

Valencia CF head coach Javier Aguirre has welcomed Umar Sadiq’s return from injury after the Nigerian striker came off the bench to score the decisive goal in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Elche CF.

The 29-year-old marked his comeback in spectacular fashion, finding the net at the Manuel Martínez Valero to hand Valencia all three points and give his manager another attacking option as the season progresses.

Introduced in the second half, Sadiq made an immediate impact, finishing off a swift counter-attacking move with composure. The former Real Sociedad forward showed excellent control to get past his marker before calmly slotting the ball into the net.

His timely contribution proved decisive in a closely contested encounter, with Valencia holding on to secure an important away victory.

Speaking after the game, Aguirre expressed his satisfaction with the striker’s return, describing it as positive news for everyone at the club.

“It’s great news for everybody,” Aguirre said to Valencia’s official website.

The Valencia boss, however, admitted that his team could have made the victory more comfortable after failing to capitalise on opportunities to extend their advantage.

“We also had the chance to make it 0-2, and I don’t know what happened in that move. Elche CF had their chances too. The win feels good.”

Sadiq ends injury absence with decisive contribution

Sadiq’s goal was particularly significant after a frustrating spell on the sidelines that disrupted his involvement during the opening stages of the campaign.

The Nigerian international had missed Valencia’s previous seven league matches following his injury, with the club facing Barcelona, Sevilla, Alavés, Real Sociedad, Racing Santander, Athletic Club and Villarreal during his absence.

His return against Elche offered an encouraging reminder of the attacking threat he brings to Aguirre’s side, with his ability to run behind defenders and finish chances providing an additional dimension to Valencia’s forward line.

Despite his limited involvement this season, Sadiq has maintained a decent scoring record, registering two goals in four appearances.

His latest strike could provide the confidence needed to build momentum after an interrupted start to the campaign.

Valencia hopeful of Sadiq’s consistency

With the striker now back in action, Valencia will be keen to manage his fitness carefully and ensure he can maintain his availability for the remainder of the season.

Sadiq will also be eager to use his match-winning contribution against Elche as a platform to rediscover his best form and establish himself as an important figure in Aguirre’s attacking plans.
