Rulani Mokwena begins search for Fiston Mayele replacement at Pyramids FC

New Pyramids FC head coach Rulani Mokwena has reportedly made signing a new striker one of his immediate priorities following the departure of club talisman Fiston Mayele.

The South African tactician was recently unveiled as the Egyptian club’s new head coach, replacing Croatian manager Krunoslav Jurcic, but his arrival comes at a time when Pyramids are set to lose one of their most important attacking figures.

Mayele is reportedly close to completing a move to Libyan giants Al Ahli Tripoli, leaving Pyramids in need of a replacement for the prolific forward.

According to reports from Al Watan Sport, Mokwena has already informed the club’s management that bringing in a new striker is a priority and wants the transfer completed as quickly as possible.

The report indicates that while the coach has not yet settled on a specific target, he has requested the signing of a foreign centre-forward rather than recruiting from the Egyptian domestic market.

Mokwena is also believed to be pushing for further defensive reinforcements, with the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach requesting the addition of another centre-back to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Meanwhile, Pyramids assistant coach Mohamed Nagy has praised Mokwena’s appointment, highlighting the experience and ambition the 39-year-old brings to the club.

Speaking in an interview with MBC Masr, Nagy said Mokwena’s previous work across Africa and the Arab region makes him well-equipped for the challenge.

“Mokwena has experience in both the Arab world and Africa through his time with Sundowns and Wydad, as well as in Algeria and Libya.

“He is very ambitious, understands exactly what is required of him, has a lot of experience and brings great enthusiasm.”

Mokwena will now look to reshape the Pyramids squad as he prepares for a new chapter in Egypt, with attacking reinforcements expected to be among his first major moves in the transfer market.
