Jesse Bisiwu seals Barcelona move in €8.5m deal

Barcelona have completed the signing of highly-rated Belgian winger of Ghanaian and Congolese descent, Jesse Bisiwu, from Club Brugge in a deal worth a fixed €8.5 million, with the Belgian club retaining a 20% sell-on clause.

The agreement, brokered by Barcelona sporting director Deco and João Amaral, sees the 18-year-old move to the Catalan giants after attracting attention from several leading European clubs.

Rising talent earns Camp Nou opportunity

Born in January 2008, Bisiwu began his football journey in the youth ranks of Oud-Heverlee Leuven before joining Club Brugge’s academy in 2020.

The Belgium Under-19 international has established himself as one of the country’s most promising young attackers. Although naturally right-footed, he is most effective operating from the left wing, where his pace, acceleration and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations have become standout features of his game.

His direct approach, quick changes of direction and intelligent movement across the forward line reportedly attracted interest from a number of Europe’s top scouting departments before Barcelona secured his signature.

Once he completes his medical and signs the necessary paperwork, Bisiwu is expected to join Barcelona Atlètic under the guidance of Juliano Belletti.

The club believes the reserve side will provide the ideal platform for the teenager to adapt to Spanish football while developing a deeper understanding of Barcelona’s tactical philosophy.

Despite beginning with the reserve team, the youngster could soon receive opportunities alongside the senior squad.

First-team coach Hansi Flick is expected to monitor Bisiwu closely during training and pre-season as Barcelona assess whether the winger is ready to make the step up to top-flight football.

Long-term investment for the future

Bisiwu’s arrival is another example of Barcelona’s strategy of recruiting highly-rated young talent before their market value rises significantly.

Club officials believe the teenager has the attributes to develop into a future first-team player, with his explosive dribbling, versatility across the attacking positions and rapid progression making him one of Belgium’s brightest emerging prospects.

Should he continue his development at Barcelona Atlètic, Bisiwu could eventually follow the path of several academy graduates who have gone on to establish themselves at Camp Nou.
