Manchester United hesitate over Manu Kone transfer as Roma asking price raises concerns

Manchester United’s pursuit of Roma midfielder Manu Kone is facing doubts, with concerns emerging over whether the deal makes sense at the Serie A club’s current asking price.

The midfielder has been linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford as United continue to search for fresh energy and balance in midfield, but there is hesitation over how far they are willing to stretch financially.

Journalist Laurie Whitwell has questioned whether Kone is viewed internally as the kind of “stellar” name that typically commands a major outlay.

He suggested United do not see him as anywhere near a £100 million‑level signing and that even Roma’s reduced valuation might still be “too rich for United’s blood.” Whitwell also noted that plans at Old Trafford have evolved during the window, making it harder to be definitive about if or when United will push ahead.

For now, Kone remains among the options under consideration, but the sense is that United must carefully weigh his profile and price against other targets as they reshape their midfield.
