Zamalek Sporting Club has officially announced the appointment of Portuguese coach Jose Gomez to lead the football team, succeeding Moutamed Gamal.
Gomez is no stranger to one of Zamalek’s key players, Mohamed Abdel-Shafy, the seasoned left-back and second captain of the White Knights.
Abdel-Shafy previously played under the guidance of the Portuguese tactician during his tenure at Ahly Jeddah.
Abdel-Shafy featured in only four matches under Gomez’s management during the 2016-2017 season with Al Ahly Jeddah.
Gomez’s coaching expertise extends to current Pyramids FC star, Mostafa Fathi.
During his second term with Saudi team Al-Taawoun in the 2021-2022 season, Fathi, under Gomez’s direction, participated in eight matches, contributing to six goals.
In his initial stint with Al-Taawoun during the 2017-2018 season, Gomez led three Egyptian stars, notably the iconic goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary, who played 27 official matches and scored a penalty under Gomez’s management.
Emad Moteab, a prominent figure in Egyptian football, was another player shaped by Jose Gomez during his time with Al-Taawoun, featuring in seven matches.
Additionally, Mustafa Fathi reunited with Gomez during his second tenure in the previous season.
The Portuguese manager’s influence on Egyptian talents extends beyond the pitch, offering a glimpse into the future dynamics of Zamalek under his guidance.
