Egypt captain Mohamed Salah could be set for a surprise move to Turkey, with reports claiming Besiktas are in negotiations to sign the former Liverpool forward following his departure from the Premier League club.

According to Turkish media, discussions are ongoing between the two parties, although the proposed deal is yet to be finalised because of differences over the player’s salary demands.

Contract talks continue

Turkish newspaper Fanatik reports that Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, travelled to Istanbul to explore the possibility of completing a transfer after the Egyptian international was recently offered to Besiktas.

The report states that negotiations remain active but that the two sides have yet to reach an agreement over financial terms.

Salah is reportedly seeking an annual salary of €15 million, a figure that has become the main obstacle to concluding the deal.

Turkey preferred over Saudi Arabia

The same report claims the 33-year-old is interested in beginning a new chapter in Turkish football.

It also suggests Salah is not keen on a move to the Saudi Pro League, while his family is said to favour relocating to Turkey.

Besiktas await breakthrough

According to the reports, Besiktas officials are expected to hold further talks with Salah’s representative in the coming hours in an effort to bridge the financial gap and determine whether an agreement can be reached.

Supporters of the Istanbul club are closely following developments, with the signing of one of Africa’s greatest footballers expected to rank among the most significant transfers in Besiktas’ history if the negotiations are successfully concluded.
