Takudzwa Ngwenya, the winger for Biarritz Olympique, will not be available for the United States national rugby team in their test against Russia. The match is scheduled for the upcoming Friday in Colwyn Bay, Wales. Ngwenya is unable to travel to Great Britain due to administrative reasons, as the British embassy has informed him of a ten-day waiting period to renew his visa.
As a result, Ngwenya has had to decline the national team selection and will instead play for Biarritz against Perpignan in the Top 14 this weekend.
Takudzwa Ngwenya, 27 years old, was born in Harare and is of Zimbabwean origin. He learned to play rugby at the Mashonaland club and later played at Vainona High School before moving to the United States in 2003 for studies.
Known for his exceptional sprinting abilities, Ngwenya is considered one of the fastest wingers in the world, running the 100m in 10.25 seconds. He made his first international appearance on September 8, 2007, against England during the Rugby World Cup in France. Ngwenya gained worldwide recognition for his performance against South Africa, scoring a remarkable try that was later named the IRB’s Try of the Year.
After the 2007 World Cup, Ngwenya joined Biarritz Olympique in November 2007, learning alongside coach Patrice Lagisquet, a former winger for the French XV. Ngwenya has become Biarritz’s top try scorer in European competitions and is considered a key player for his team.
