Fenerbahçe open door for Sofyan Amrabat exit amid major summer squad overhaul
Morocco international Sofyan Amrabat is reportedly among the high-profile players who could leave Fenerbahçe this summer as the Turkish giants prepare for a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Istanbul-based club is actively reshaping its squad by recruiting new players while offloading those who no longer feature prominently in the coaching staff’s long-term plans.
According to report, Fenerbahçe are looking to reduce the number of foreign players in their squad to comply with league regulations and create space for new arrivals. The club is also aiming to generate significant transfer income through the sale of several first-team players.
Amrabat has emerged as one of the biggest names on the list of potential departures.
The Moroccan midfielder has found it increasingly difficult to secure regular playing time due to fierce competition in Fenerbahçe’s midfield, prompting the club to consider cashing in on him during the current transfer window.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, the 29-year-old remains a highly sought-after midfielder across Europe.
Several clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation, including Spanish outfit Real Betis, where Amrabat spent last season on loan. His performances in La Liga are understood to have left a positive impression, with Betis said to be keen on bringing him back permanently.
In addition to interest from Spain, clubs in Italy are also believed to be tracking the former Fiorentina midfielder, whose experience in Serie A and La Liga has made him an attractive option for teams seeking a combative and technically gifted central midfielder.
However, Fenerbahçe are reportedly reluctant to sanction another temporary move. Instead, the club’s hierarchy is said to favour a permanent transfer that would allow them to recoup a sizeable fee and strengthen their financial position before completing further signings.
The Turkish giants believe Amrabat remains one of their most marketable assets, with the Morocco international expected to attract offers from clubs competing in Europe’s top leagues.
A permanent departure would also enable Fenerbahçe to accelerate their rebuilding project as they seek to assemble a squad capable of challenging for domestic honours and making a deep run in European competition next season.
Amrabat is not the only player facing an uncertain future at the club, with Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livaković is also among those who could leave, alongside İrfan Can Eğribayat, Jayden Oosterwolde, Diego Carlos, Rodrigo Becão, Egyptian defender Omar Fayed, Nélson Semedo and Anthony Musaba.
The potential exits underline the scale of the restructuring taking place at Fenerbahçe as the club looks to refresh its squad and improve its competitiveness.
For Amrabat, the coming weeks could prove decisive. Having established himself as one of Morocco’s key players in recent years, a move to a club where he can secure regular first-team football would be crucial as he looks to maintain his place with the Atlas Lions ahead of future international competitions.
With interest continuing to grow from Spain and Italy, the Moroccan midfielder is expected to be one of the key names to watch as the summer transfer window gathers momentum.
