Mohamed Salah: Egypt star linked with shock Kansas City move from free agency

Mohamed Salah, the Egypt forward currently without a club after leaving Liverpool, is being linked with a surprise move to MLS side Kansas City. The 34-year-old right winger became a free agent on 1 July 2026 and is now weighing up offers for the next step in a decorated career.

Kansas City are understood to be exploring the possibility of bringing in Salah as a marquee attacking signing, with the former Liverpool player still valued at around 22m despite his contractual status. Any deal would not involve a transfer fee, increasing the appeal for the MLS club as they look to add proven top-level output in the final third.

Salah bowed out from Liverpool this summer after a nine-year spell that saw him become one of the Premier Leagues most prolific forwards, with 193 goals and 95 assists in 328 league appearances. He also struck 50 times in 98 Champions League games and was a central figure in Liverpools 2018-19 European triumph and multiple domestic title wins, including the league championship in 2024-25.

The Egyptian captain remains active at the highest level, featuring in all five of his countrys matches at the 2026 World Cup and contributing one goal and two assists. His continued involvement for Egypt underlines his desire to compete regularly rather than wind down his career.

Having collected individual honours such as multiple African Footballer of the Year awards and several Premier League Golden Boots, Salahs next move is expected to draw significant global attention. For now he remains unattached, free to negotiate with Kansas City and other interested clubs as he considers his first move since leaving Anfield.
