Ghanaian international left-back Gideon Mensah is traveling to Germany to undergo his medical examination with Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln.

The 27-year-old defender has reached a full agreement on personal terms and is finalizing the final details of his move to the Cathedral City.

He will join the German club on a free transfer after his contract with French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre officially expired.

The reliable defender recently enjoyed a standout individual campaign with the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played every single minute of Ghana’s four tournament fixtures.

His stellar defensive performances and consistent work rate on the flanks sparked widespread European interest.

While clubs like FC Schalke 04, Coventry City, and several teams in Turkey actively pursued his signature, Mensah ultimately chose the project at Köln.

According to reports from Sky Sport Germany, the defender has agreed to a three-year contract that will bind him to Die Geißböcke until June 2029.

Köln targeted the experienced fullback as a direct replacement on the left flank following the departure of Kristoffer Lund.

Once he completes his medical evaluations, Mensah will officially put pen to paper. The club is expected to issue a formal press release and host his official unveiling shortly after the medical data is cleared.
