Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi says the Atlas Lions will not abandon the approach that has carried them to another FIFA World Cup quarter-final as they prepare to face France in a blockbuster last-eight clash.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s encounter, Ouahbi insisted the North Africans would approach one of the biggest matches in their football history exactly as they have every other fixture, believing consistency has been central to the team’s success throughout the tournament.

“Our approach must always remain the same if we want to produce our best performances,” Ouahbi said.

“The way we work every day, whether it’s analysing matches or preparing for them, does not change, whether we are facing France in a World Cup quarterfinal or Burundi in a friendly.”

Building on familiar routines

Ouahbi believes maintaining the same preparation and routines allows his players to remain composed regardless of the occasion, creating an environment where they can concentrate solely on delivering their best on the pitch.

“I believe this is one of the keys to success because it allows every player to stay focused,” he said.

“It is important to build consistent habits within the group, and we are approaching this match with a great deal of calm.”

Morocco chasing another historic milestone

Morocco arrive at the quarter-finals after another impressive World Cup campaign, becoming the first African nation to reach the last eight in consecutive tournaments.

The Atlas Lions have earned widespread praise for their disciplined displays and well-defined tactical identity under Ouahbi, and victory over France would secure another landmark achievement by sending the African side into the semi-finals.

The fixture also rekindles memories of the 2022 World Cup semi-final in Qatar, where France brought Morocco’s historic run to an end.

Thursday’s winner will book a place in the World Cup semi-finals. The match kicks off at 9:00 p.m. (GMT+1) at Boston Stadium, with Argentine referee Facundo Tello taking charge.
