World Cup 2026: Mbappe expects difficult battle against Morocco in quarter-finals
France captain Kylian Mbappé has predicted a challenging encounter against Morocco as the two nations prepare to meet in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after France secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Paraguay to book their place in the last eight, the Real Madrid forward praised Morocco’s quality and warned that Les Bleus face a demanding contest in Boston.
“We will be playing against a very good team,” Mbappe told reporters following France’s qualification.
The French captain also welcomed the opportunity to face the North African side in one of the tournament’s most eagerly awaited quarter-final clashes.
“We are very happy to be facing the Moroccan national team.”
Morocco continue to carry African hopes
The quarter-final between France national football team and Morocco national football team has generated huge attention across the football world, particularly in Africa, where Morocco remain one of the continent’s last hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
Mbappe acknowledged the importance of the occasion while insisting France remain focused on extending their World Cup campaign.
“We will do our best to continue our journey.”
The 27-year-old enters the match in outstanding form after scoring seven goals at the tournament, level with Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.
Semi-final place on the line in Boston
France will meet Morocco on July 9 in Boston, with a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at stake.
The encounter is expected to attract enormous global attention as Morocco attempt to produce another historic result against one of the tournament favourites, while France continue their pursuit of a second consecutive World Cup title.
