Hussein Ammouta to be unveiled as Al Ahly coach on Tuesday

Al Ahly have postponed the official unveiling of newly appointed head coach Hussein Ammouta by 24 hours, moving the scheduled presentation from Monday to Tuesday.

The Moroccan tactician had already arrived in Cairo with members of his backroom staff ahead of the planned ceremony, which was expected to include his first press conference as manager. However, the club later confirmed a change in schedule, stating that the unveiling event will now take place on Tuesday. No official reason was immediately provided for the postponement.

Ammouta’s appointment comes at a crucial moment for the Egyptian giants, who are aiming to reset after a disappointing campaign. He replaces Danish coach Jess Thorup, whose tenure ended following a mutual termination of his contract after a season that fell short of expectations.

The club’s leadership opted for a change in direction after Egyptian Premier League concluded with Al Ahly finishing third — a position widely viewed as below the standards of the Cairo-based powerhouse. The result triggered internal evaluations and ultimately led to the coaching reshuffle.

Ammouta now inherits a squad under pressure to quickly return to winning ways, with expectations high both domestically and in continental competition. Known for his structured tactical approach and emphasis on discipline, he has built a reputation as one of the more experienced managers in African and Arab football, with success at club level and notable international coaching spells in the region.

His arrival is being framed as the start of a potential new era for the club, as Al Ahly look to reassert their dominance in Egyptian football and strengthen their competitiveness in continental tournaments. Supporters are hopeful that his experience and calm managerial style will help stabilise the team and restore consistency after an inconsistent season.

Al Ahly’s management is expected to formally introduce Ammouta on Tuesday, where he will outline his vision, objectives, and early plans for the squad ahead of the new season.
