Newcastle eye 40m-rated Leverkusen and Cameroon striker Christian Kofane
Cameroon centre-forward Christian Kofane of Bayer Leverkusen has been linked with a move to Newcastle United, with the Premier League club monitoring the 19-year-old ahead of a possible summer approach.
Kofane, who stands at 1.89m and wears the number 35 shirt for Leverkusen, is currently valued at 40.00m on Transfermarkt, a figure likely to frame any negotiations. The rumoured switch from the Bundesliga to Tyneside is still at an early stage, with the probability of a deal being completed listed as ? and no agreement reported between the clubs.
Born in Douala on 26 July 2006, Kofane has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past two seasons. Having moved from Cameroonian side AS Nylon to Albacete Balompies U19s in Spain in November 2024, he was promoted to the first team in January 2025 before earning a transfer to Leverkusen on 11 July 2025.
Since then, his market value has soared. Estimated at 200,000 in March 2025 while at Albacete, it climbed to 5m three months later, then to 12m following his early months in Germany, before further jumps to 22m and finally 40m by March 2026, where it has remained through May.
Kofane, a right-footed central striker, is listed with Bayer 04 Leverkusen as his national-team affiliation, underlining his status as a club-developed prospect rather than a senior Cameroon international at this stage. There is currently no public record of his contract expiry date, meaning there is no suggestion he is close to becoming a free agent.
The latest rumour, dated 4 July 2026, comes after a 2025-26 campaign in which the teenager continued to build his reputation in Germany. Should Newcastle decide to test Leverkusens resolve, a successful move to the Premier League would represent a significant step in Kofanes career and further elevate his standing as one of Cameroons most valuable young forwards.
