Wolfsburg sweat on Saël Kumbedi's fitness

Despite a turbulent campaign for VfL Wolfsburg, young full-back Sael Kumbedi has emerged as one of the more sought-after defensive prospects in the European transfer market.

The 21-year-old endured a difficult season in Germany that ultimately ended in relegation for Wolfsburg, but his individual performances have still drawn attention from several top clubs across the continent, with scouts continuing to monitor his development closely.

According to reports, his situation is expected to be one of the more active storylines in the upcoming transfer window, with multiple leagues already positioning themselves for a potential move.

Serie A giants and European suitors on alert

In Italy, both AS Roma and SS Lazio are believed to be tracking Kumbedi as they look to reinforce their defensive options with young, high-upside talent.

Interest is not limited to Serie A, however. Portuguese champions FC Porto and Dutch side Feyenoord are also understood to be in the race, alongside an unnamed Ligue 1 club keeping a watching brief on the situation.

The growing list of admirers underlines the perception that Kumbedi remains a player of significant long-term potential, despite a challenging season at club level.

Wolfsburg stance and contract situation

Kumbedi remains under contract with Wolfsburg until 2029, placing the Bundesliga side in a strong negotiating position should formal bids arrive this summer.

However, sources suggest the club may still consider offers if the valuation is met, particularly as they prepare for life outside Germany’s top flight following relegation.

The defender made 24 Bundesliga appearances last season, gaining valuable top-level experience even as results went against his side.

Assist impact and development trajectory

Kumbedi’s first full campaign in Germany followed his permanent move from Olympique Lyonnais, initially valued at around €9m after an earlier loan spell.

He ended the season with five assists, offering attacking output from the right flank that has further enhanced his reputation as a modern, forward-thinking full-back.
