Victor Boniface returns early to Bayer Leverkusen training

Victor Boniface has become the first player back at Bayer Leverkusen’s training base as the club prepares for its official pre-season start on July 13.

The 25-year-old Nigerian forward has been working at the facility for around two weeks as he steps up preparations after an injury-hit 12 months that limited his game time. Last season he spent a loan spell at Werder Bremen while rebuilding fitness, a period that included adaptation challenges and increased media scrutiny over his physical condition.

Two high-profile moves also collapsed this summer, reported approaches from Al-Nassr and a potential loan to AC Milan fell through amid concerns over Boniface’s medicals and fitness status.

Leverkusen will be hoping the early return and uninterrupted preparation help him put those setbacks behind him and push for a fresh start ahead of the new campaign.

Victor Boniface transferred to Bayer Leverkusen on 22nd July, 2023, from Union Saint-Gilloise for a reported €20 million fee, signing a five-year contract until June 2028.

The club’s decision to allow early training suggests confidence in his recovery and a desire to integrate him fully into pre-season plans. Fans will watch closely as Boniface aims to convert regained fitness into form when competitive action resumes.
