Yassine Meriah completes Club Africain switch after leaving ES Tunis
Tunisia international Yassine Meriah has completed a move to Club Africain on a two-year contract after leaving domestic rivals ES Tunis.
The 32-year-old centre-back joins as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with ES Tunis, bringing an end to a successful spell with the club where he established himself as one of the country’s most experienced defenders.
The move had been widely anticipated after ES Tunis opted not to renew his deal at the end of the 2025-26 season.
Meriah’s arrival is regarded as a significant boost for Club Africain as they strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign. His experience at both club and international level is expected to add leadership and stability to the club’s defence.
The former Tunisia captain has enjoyed an accomplished career, featuring for clubs including CS Sfaxien, Olympiacos, Kasımpaşa, Çaykur Rizespor and Al Ain before returning to Tunisia with ES Tunis in 2022.
During his second spell with ES Tunis, Meriah helped the club win domestic honours and captained the side, becoming one of the team’s most influential figures.
However, the club decided against extending his contract, paving the way for his switch across the Tunis derby divide.
The transfer is likely to attract significant attention in Tunis, given the fierce rivalry between ES Tunis and Club Africain.
Moves directly between the two clubs are uncommon, making Meriah’s decision one of the most high-profile transfers in Tunisian football this summer.
Meriah, who has earned more than 90 caps for Tunisia, is expected to report for pre-season training immediately as Club Africain prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
