In Wednesday’s Champions League fixtures, several African internationals showcased their performances:
- Yaya Touré faced difficulties against Bayern Munich, with Manchester City losing 1-3 at the Etihad Stadium. Despite being well-muzzled by Bayern’s midfield, Touré had a chance to save his team’s honor in the 90th minute, heading towards goal before being irregularly stopped by Jérôme Boateng.
- Didier Drogba scored his first Champions League goal of the season against Juventus, helping Galatasaray lead for a significant part of the match. Although the team eventually faltered, conceding two goals in 5 minutes, Drogba played a crucial role by heading to Umut Bulut for the equalizing goal in the last minute.
- Frank Acheampong and Anderlecht had a challenging day as they faced a nightmare at home. Acheampong, a Ghanaian midfielder who came on in the 76th minute, couldn’t prevent Kostas Mitroglu from scoring a hat-trick. Cheikhou Kouyaté, a Senegalese defender, also faced difficulties in defense. On the opposing side, Cameroonian Gaétan Bong and Congolese Delvin Ndinga enjoyed a successful match.
- Ahmed Musa’s CSKA Moscow turned the tide against Viktoria Plzen, coming from behind to win 3-2. Musa, a Nigerian international, played the full match and was substituted in the 89th minute.
