Mohamed Salah emerges as Al Ahli’s top transfer target after Mahrez’s exit
Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah has once again been linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League, with fresh reports suggesting that Al Ahli have identified the former Liverpool forward as their priority signing during the current summer transfer window.
Salah is currently a free agent after bringing an end to his illustrious nine-year spell at Liverpool following the expiration of his contract at the end of June.
According to journalist Sasha Tavoleri, Al Ahli have made initial enquiries about the possibility of signing the Egyptian international as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
The Saudi club’s interest comes after the departure of Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, who reportedly terminated his contract by mutual agreement and received a compensation package worth €14.5 million, leaving Al Ahli in search of a marquee replacement.
Club officials are believed to be targeting a high-profile attacking player to fill the void left by Mahrez, with Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi also among the names under consideration. However, Salah is understood to be the club’s preferred option.
Despite the growing speculation, the report states that talks have not yet progressed to a formal negotiating stage. Initial contact has reportedly focused on assessing Salah’s willingness to make the move, as well as understanding his financial expectations and sporting ambitions.
Salah has been repeatedly linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia in recent transfer windows, having previously attracted interest from Al Hilal and Al Ittihad. With his future yet to be decided, the 33-year-old remains one of the most sought-after free agents on the market.
