Chibuike Nwaiwu Attracting Attention From England

Championship side West Ham United have stepped up their interest in highly rated defender Chibuike Nwaiwu, but their initial approach has been firmly turned down.

The 22-year-old Nigerian, who has emerged as one of the most sought-after young centre-backs in Europe, is now at the centre of a growing transfer battle involving several top clubs.

Rising stock after breakthrough season

Nwaiwu’s rise has been rapid since his January switch from Austrian outfit Wolfsberger AC to Trabzonspor. In a standout second half of the campaign, he registered three goals and one assist in 16 league appearances, performances that underlined both his defensive solidity and threat from set pieces.

His impact also played a part in Trabzonspor’s Turkish Cup triumph, further boosting his profile across Europe.

Trabzonspor hold firm on valuation

Despite strong interest, Trabzonspor are refusing to lower their demands for one of their key defensive assets. Reports indicate that West Ham’s €30 million offer has already been rejected, with the Turkish club holding out for at least €35 million before considering any sale.

The Istanbul-based side view Nwaiwu as a long-term pillar of their project and are under no pressure to cash in during this window.

Competition intensifies across Europe

West Ham are not alone in their pursuit. Fulham have reportedly seen two previous bids turned down, while Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are also monitoring developments closely.

With interest spreading across England and Germany, the race for Nwaiwu is expected to intensify, particularly if he maintains his upward trajectory heading into the new season.
