The Togolese Minister of Security and Civil Protection, Yark Damehane, has initiated a meeting with the presidents of Togo’s football clubs, leagues, and members of the Togolese Football Federation to address the issue of increasing violence in football stadiums. The minister emphasized that such acts would no longer be tolerated, stating, “Football is a unifying sport and must be played as such. We will no longer tolerate these acts in our stadiums. The perpetrators will answer for their actions before the courts.” The minister also announced the appointment of a liaison officer to coordinate security activities during first division matches and called on club presidents and referees to work conscientiously to restore the spirit of fair play. The meeting comes after violent incidents involving supporters of Koroki de Tchamba during a Togo football championship match led to the suspension of the Tchamba stadium until further notice.
