Cape Verde FA rejects claims over Vozinha’s mother’s World Cup trip, credits FIFA support

The Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF) has moved to clarify the circumstances surrounding the travel of Ana Cândida Évora, the mother of Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, following widespread speculation during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement released on Friday, the federation dismissed reports suggesting that individuals outside the organization were responsible for arranging Évora’s trip to the United States.

According to the FCF, the entire process was coordinated and financed by the federation in partnership with FIFA as part of its commitment to supporting national team players and their families.

“The whole trip was handled, organized and undertaken entirely by the Cape Verdean Football Federation and FIFA, within the scope of our duty to support the athletes of the National Team and their respective families,” the statement said.

The federation further disclosed that it received valuable assistance from FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the United States government in facilitating the visa process and travel documentation required for Évora’s journey.

The issue attracted significant attention after Vozinha revealed that his mother had been unable to attend Cape Verde’s historic World Cup debut against Spain because of visa-related difficulties.

The veteran goalkeeper delivered a memorable performance in the match, earning widespread praise and the Man of the Match award.

However, the FCF expressed concern over what it described as misleading narratives surrounding the resolution of the case.

The federation accused some individuals of attempting to take credit for the outcome despite having no direct involvement.

“We regret that this act of solidarity is being targeted by disinformation and misappropriation by those who do not know the facts,” the federation stated.

The governing body reiterated its commitment to transparency while urging the public and media to respect the privacy of Vozinha and his family.

The statement is expected to end speculation over the arrangements for Ana Cândida Évora’s travel and reaffirm the federation’s role, alongside FIFA, in ensuring that the goalkeeper’s mother can join him during Cape Verde’s historic World Cup campaign.
