World Cup 2026: Senegal announce special ticket scheme for fans ahead of tournament
Senegalese supporters living in the United States and Canada will be allocated a dedicated ticket quota for matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, under a new support system announced by the country’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The initiative comes as preparations intensify for Senegal’s participation in the expanded tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States and Canada alongside Mexico.
According to the ministry, a structured arrangement has been put in place in collaboration with diplomatic missions to ensure that fans of the national team, known as the Lions of Teranga, are able to access tickets under a controlled and transparent system.
400 tickets per match reserved for supporters abroad
A central feature of the plan is the allocation of 400 tickets per match specifically for Senegalese supporters residing in the United States and Canada.
The ministry stated that this quota has been introduced with ticket prices in mind, acknowledging the high cost associated with attending World Cup matches in North America.
Officials said the arrangement is intended to provide fair access to tickets for members of the Senegalese diaspora who may otherwise face difficulties securing seats through general sales.
The system is designed to ensure that supporters based abroad have a defined pathway to attend matches involving the national team during the tournament.
Committee established to manage distribution
To oversee the process, an ad hoc committee has been created to manage the allocation and distribution of tickets.
The ministry said the committee will be responsible for ensuring transparency and fairness in how the tickets are assigned to eligible supporters.
Its role will include coordinating with diplomatic missions in both the United States and Canada, as well as handling requests from Senegalese fans seeking access to the designated quota.
The establishment of the committee is intended to prevent irregularities and ensure that the limited number of tickets is distributed in an organised and accountable manner.
Support for diaspora fans
The initiative highlights the importance placed on Senegal’s diaspora communities, particularly those based in North America, where a significant number of supporters are expected to attend matches during the tournament.
With Senegal competing on one of football’s biggest stages, officials have moved to strengthen links with fans abroad and facilitate their presence at stadiums during key fixtures.
The ministry emphasised that the arrangement is part of broader efforts to support the national team’s participation in the World Cup and to ensure that supporters are not excluded due to financial or logistical barriers.
High demand expected for Senegal matches
Demand for tickets is expected to be high, particularly given the scale of the tournament and the popularity of the event across host nations.
With matches taking place across the United States and Canada, Senegalese supporters living in both countries are likely to form a significant portion of travelling fans following the team.
The ticket allocation plan aims to manage this demand in a structured way, providing a controlled number of guaranteed seats for supporters through official channels.
Focus on organisation ahead of tournament
As preparations continue for the 2026 World Cup, attention is increasingly turning to logistical planning off the pitch, including ticketing, travel and supporter coordination.
For Senegal, the introduction of a formal ticket quota and management committee reflects an effort to organise fan access early and avoid complications closer to the tournament.
The ministry’s announcement underlines the importance of planning for supporter engagement, particularly for nations with large diaspora populations spread across host countries.
With the tournament still ahead, officials are expected to continue refining arrangements to ensure that Senegalese fans can follow their team in a structured and accessible way throughout the competition.
