Egyptian giants Al Ahly are reportedly monitoring Algerian striker Redouane Berkane ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, as the club looks to strengthen its attacking options for the new season.

According to reports, the 22-year-old forward, who currently plays for Al-Wakrah in Qatar, has emerged as a potential target for the Cairo-based club as they assess possible reinforcements in attack.

Al Ahly’s management, led by chairman Mahmoud El Khatib, have been impressed by Berkane’s physical strength, movement and goal-scoring ability, viewing him as a promising option to bolster the team’s frontline.

Initial contact and inquiries are believed to have already taken place in recent weeks, with Al Ahly seeking to gather information on the player’s situation before deciding whether to open formal negotiations with Al-Wakrah.

However, any potential deal is expected to face significant challenges. The striker is reportedly under a long-term contract with the Qatari club that runs until 2029, giving Al-Wakrah a strong negotiating position and making any transfer financially complicated.

Another key obstacle is Al Ahly’s current foreign player quota. The club has already filled its allocated slots for foreign professionals, meaning that any potential arrival would require at least one current foreign player to leave either permanently or on loan before a deal could be completed.

Despite the difficulties, Berkane’s profile has made him an attractive option for the Egyptian champions. The young striker has enjoyed an impressive spell in Qatar, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in 22 appearances for Al-Wakrah, underlining his growing reputation as a reliable attacking threat.

He has also shown his quality on the international stage, featuring for Algeria’s local national team in the Arab Cup held in Qatar, where he contributed four goal involvements in as many matches, scoring twice and providing two assists across the tournament.

Al Ahly are expected to continue assessing multiple attacking targets as they plan for the summer transfer window, with the club keen to maintain its dominance domestically and remain competitive on the continental stage.

For now, Berkane remains one of several names under consideration, with no official negotiations yet confirmed. However, interest from Africa’s most successful club highlights the rising profile of the young Algerian striker and his growing influence in the region’s football landscape.
