The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) released an official statement today, Wednesday, extending its sincere apologies to the passionate Egyptian fans for the national football team’s performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.
The apology comes in the wake of Egypt’s elimination from the tournament after a defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the quarter-finals.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the EFA expressed remorse for the team’s results, acknowledging the disappointment of the Egyptian fans and the failure to achieve their aspirations and the goals set by the EFA’s administration.
The statement highlighted the efforts made by the EFA to meet all requirements and provide necessary resources for the preparation of the team before and during the tournament.
The EFA statement read, “The Egyptian Football Association extends its apology to the great Egyptian fans for the results presented by the national football team during its participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast, and for not fulfilling the aspirations of the Egyptian fans and the goals of the EFA’s administration, which has played its role in meeting all requirements and providing all means to prepare the team before and during the tournament.”
Furthermore, the statement expressed gratitude to Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports, representing the Egyptian state and political leadership.
The EFA praised Dr. Sobhi for his support in guiding the national team’s journey through consultation and agreement on visions aimed at uplifting the national teams since the current administration took office.
The EFA concluded the statement by affirming its connection to the Egyptian people, acknowledging the sentiments of the fans, and announcing that the board is convening a meeting on Sunday, February 4, 2024, to review technical, medical, and administrative reports.
The meeting will include assessments from the team’s mission chief and supervisor to make appropriate decisions.
The EFA assured that no effort or thought would be spared to determine the best course of action for the national teams in the upcoming period.
