The Algerian Football Federation has unveiled the behind-the-scenes drama of Djamel Belmadi’s departure, the former coach of the Algerian national team, and the crisis arising from his refusal to terminate his contract.
Following the elimination of the “Desert Warriors” from the group stage and their defeat to Mauritania with a 1-0 score, placing them at the bottom of Group Four in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Algerian Football Federation issued an official statement detailing the events with Belmadi, confirming that the coach later refused to terminate his contract due to financial compensation.
In an official statement on their website, the Algerian Football Federation stated, “Recognizing the weight of its responsibilities in safeguarding the interests of the national teams.
The Algerian Football Federation, through its president Walid Sadie, intervened to take necessary actions with the Algerian coach after the elimination of the Greens.”
They further explained, “Belmadi was summoned to Bwaki City a day after the bitter elimination to evaluate the reasons behind this failure.
An agreement on a mutual termination of the contract was reached amicably.”
“In the discussions initiated in Bwaki, an amicable termination agreement was formulated between coach Djamel Belmadi and all members of his staff, and it was formalized upon their return to Algeria,” the statement continued.
The Federation added, “The next day, the concerned parties responded to the invitation of the President of the Algerian Football Federation to authenticate the previously concluded agreement.
All members of the coaching staff signed the friendly contract termination agreement except Djamel Belmadi, who unexpectedly refused.
He requested more time for consideration, citing that the compensation offered to him did not meet his expectations.”
“After four days passed without any response from the concerned individual, who had in the meantime left the country, leaving the Federation without a response, this situation is considered detrimental to the image of Algerian football,” the statement emphasized.
In conclusion, the Federation stated, “We wanted to put an end to the significant crisis that occurred due to this issue, confirming that they were compelled to turn the page on Coach Djamel Belmadi.
An agreement was reached to terminate the contract, and plans for future challenges will begin by appointing a new coaching staff as soon as possible.”
