In a surprising turn of events, sports commentator Ahmed Shobeir has disclosed an unexpected development for Al Ahly fans concerning the acquisition of a new goalkeeper to bolster the first football team during the ongoing winter transfer window.
Al Ahly is actively seeking to secure the services of a goalkeeper before the closure of the winter transfer window to serve as a replacement for the injured Mohamed El-Shennawy.
El-Shennawy sustained a dislocated shoulder during the match against Ghana in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The club had initially considered Mohamed Abou Gabal from National Bank of Egypt as a potential candidate, but the deal faced setbacks in recent hours.
Ahmed Shobeir, speaking on ON Time Sports TV, commented, “Everyone is eagerly awaiting news about Al Ahly and the goalkeeping situation.
So far, there’s no new information.
Today, there was a meeting inside Al Ahly, but there is no news about it.”
He continued, “Al Ahly had reached an agreement with National Bank of Egypt to loan Mohamed Abou Gabal.
However, he apologized the next day for completing the deal.
This could happen, especially since Al Ahly did not officially announce the deal, but it was disclosed through the media, and I was the first to report it.”
Shobeir concluded, “There might not be a new goalkeeper at Al Ahly, and they may continue with Mustafa Shobeir along with Hamza Alaa and Mustafa Mekhlouf, especially since the trio is registered in the African list.”
