Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, has shed light on the possibility of appointing an Egyptian coach to helm the Pharaohs in the near future.
Responding to a question about the prospect of an Egyptian coach taking charge of the national team in the upcoming period during a radio interview with the journalist Ahmed Shobair, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy stated, “My personal opinion, not as a minister, is that Egypt had one experience with Captain Hassan Shehata, and before him, Mahmoud El-Gohary.
However, the local coach in the recent period did not align well with leading the Egyptian national team, as seen with the attempts of local coaches such as Hossam El-Badry and Ihab Galal.”
The Minister of Sports added, “The Egyptian coach will not have a role in the Egyptian national team unless the national coach is well-prepared.
Egypt is a significant country, and it must align with the professional world.”
In conclusion, he stated, “In the upcoming period throughout 2024, we have matches, particularly in June against Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau.
Additionally, we have a friendly match with Tunisia on March 22, and it is essential to select a head coach who can achieve our goals.”
