CAF Confederation Cup: Moatamed Gamal confident as Zamalek brace for crucial first leg against USM Alger
Zamalek head coach Moatamed Gamal has stressed the seriousness with which his side are approaching their upcoming continental assignment, describing it as a decisive step in their bid for African glory.
The Egyptian club are in Algeria ahead of the first leg of the final against USM Alger in the CAF Confederation Cup, with Gamal insisting that his players understand the magnitude of the occasion.
“Zamalek are preparing seriously for the match given its importance, especially as it is a very important game and represents the first half of the final,” Gamal told CAF Media.
He revealed that preparations began immediately after the team’s arrival in Algeria on Wednesday, despite visible fatigue in the squad following a demanding domestic schedule.
“The team began preparations as soon as we arrived in Algeria on Wednesday, despite the fatigue of the players, especially as Zamalek played a match in the Egyptian league last Tuesday,” he added.
Gamal confirmed that the focus within the camp has shifted entirely from domestic duties to continental ambitions, with the league campaign now put aside as attention turns fully to the two-legged final.
“We have closed the page on the league and are preparing for the first leg of the final against USM Alger in order to achieve a positive result and win, to move a step closer to claiming the African title. Our focus is currently on this match.”
Zamalek, one of Africa’s most experienced sides in club competition, will be aiming to secure a strong result away from home to put themselves in a favourable position ahead of the return leg.
