Jean-Luc Dompe back in contention for HSV squad
Jean-Luc Dompe is closing in on a return to Hamburg’s matchday squad after resuming full training with the team.
The winger is now under consideration for HSV’s away clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Dompe has missed the last four games with a foot injury but has now taken an important step forward. “Dompe has trained fully and is therefore an option for the squad”, explained head coach Merlin Polzin, confirming that the Frenchman is back in the frame. However, a starting role is not yet realistic. “He was out for a relatively long time. For our game, certain qualities need to be guaranteed. To be honest, that’s not yet the case with him”, Polzin admitted, noting that Dompe has probably never been at “100 percent” this season because of recurring problems.
Despite that, the coach praised his player’s attitude. “He gave everything he could to help the team in the final stretch of the season”, Polzin stressed. HSV will therefore take a cautious approach: “Let’s start with a squad nomination and then gradually increase the playing time”, the coach said, outlining a step-by-step plan for Dompe’s reintegration over the remaining matches.
